Scan Speak Classic D2008/852100

The Scanspeak D2008/852100 is an updated version of the D2008/851100 using modern materials and manufacturing practices. Featuring a neodymium magnet assembly, multiple rear chambers and a vented voice coil, this tweeter provides a smooth response and sounds very natural.

The speakers that remained in Scan-Speak's offer for the longest time were the tweeters D2008/851100(/851200) and D2010/851100(/851300) - 20 mm textile domes, used by renowned manufacturers and amateurs in countless designs, including many "cult" ones. Their unflagging popularity was even surprising in the context of the emergence of newer models ... And yet, some features were valuable and unique. So Scan-Speak continued to produce them as long as it could, although it had long struggled with wear and tear on the old machines and tools, which required costly repairs. Stubborn production of old models would have to double the price. The definitive end of production - loss of valuable items in the offer. If these models were no longer attractive to customers, Scan-Speak would simply withdraw them. However, the unflagging demand resulted in investment in seriously modified versions, already produced according to modern technologies, with modern materials and on modern machines. This means securing smooth production for many years to come, acceptable costs and an attractive price, and at the same time stable, high quality.

Parameters and characteristics are similar to the previous ones. After all, D2008 and D2010 are still needed ... The exterior has hardly been changed; from the front, the "new" D2008 can be distinguished from the "old" by four (not three) mounting holes, and the D2010 - by the black (not gray) foam, this time made of rubber (resistant to aging). The external dimensions (diameter and thickness of the front, diameter of the mounting hole) are practically identical, so it is not necessary to modify the designs prepared for previous models; the new ones can be treated as their replacements. The original two-chamber system that closes the wave from the rear side of the dome has been retained, but with a more modern, one-piece "can" and a refined damping insert. Thanks to this, the resonant frequency was lowered to 550 Hz, which for a 20 mm dome and a vibrating mass of 0.2 g is a phenomenal result. Despite this, due to the small voice coil, as before, these speakers should not be tired with very low crossover frequencies; recommended is 4 kHz with a 2nd order filter (then the power is 150 W according to IEC 18.2). There is also an improvement on the other end of the band - better dispersion in the highest octave. The magnetic system has been changed from ferrite to neodymium. As the manufacturer explains, the new models did not require the use of ferrofluid for stability and durability (the previous ones were produced in versions with and without ferrofluid), which also increases their longevity and stability of parameters.

D2008/852100 therefore simultaneously replaces D2008/851100 (without ferrofluid) and D2008/851200 (with ferrofluid).
