Scan Speak Discovery 15M/4624G00
The Discovery series offer traditional design, superior sound, a solid construction, and a wide range of variants. Combining these elements – plus a wealth of technical features and finesses – it gives our customers the possibility of acquiring a tailor-made Scan-Speak solution with very good performance at a reasonable low price point!
A thoroughbred midrange speaker for a moderate price. Very universal, able to work in any three-way system. Design features characteristic of the midrange specialization include a relatively short voice coil, which reduces the vibrating mass (only 6 g) and increases efficiency (over 92 dB); at the same time, the upper suspension is made not of rubber, but of coated foam with very low damping, which also increases efficiency and improves detail processing. The weight of the diaphragm is also reduced by using a stationary phase plug instead of a dust cap. The phase plug, together with the properties of the braided diaphragm, made according to the NRSC patent, provides a very far-reaching and resonance-free processing characteristics. On the main axis, the response remains within a +/- 1dB path up to 10kHz, and at 30o it drops off gently, with a -6dB drop at 5kHz. The simplest low-pass filtering with any crossover frequency is possible. Specially stiffened suspension sets the fundamental resonance at 100 Hz, which protects the speaker at a linear amplitude of +/- 1.5 mm, but in impulse the speaker is able to withstand a much greater maximum amplitude (+/- 8 mm). At the same time, moderate Qts goodness with very low Vas is determined - the speaker can be "packed" into a small closed volume, 2-3 liters. In the magnetic system there is an aluminum ring that reduces distortion and stabilizes the impedance. Cast basket with profiled ribs and ventilation under the spring.
