This Jantzen Audio Cross Coil copper-foil inductor has an inductance of 0.155 mH, a DCR of 0.12 ohm and a 16 AWG copper foil conductor. It is intended for high-quality passive loudspeaker crossovers. The wide conductor increases current-carrying surface area and reduces the influence of skin effect.
The model can be used in tweeter, midrange and woofer filters as well as correction circuits. Precisely specified parameters support both new designs and upgrades of high-quality crossover networks.
The Cross Coil series was developed by Jantzen Audio in cooperation with Danish loudspeaker manufacturer Audio Technology. The winding is made from high-purity 4N ETP copper foil.
The conductor layers are separated by 40 µm polypropylene film. This thin and durable insulation maintains stable winding geometry while keeping the distance between foil layers low.
Compared with conventional round wire, copper foil offers a larger conductor surface. It is selected for crossover designs where low loss, accurate transient reproduction and high construction quality are priorities.
The wide copper foil reduces the influence of skin effect and can support accurate reproduction of rapid signal changes. In a properly designed crossover, Cross Coil inductors are often selected for a clean, open and detailed presentation. The actual result depends on the complete filter, DCR and the connected drivers.
The 0.155 mH inductance allows the component to be used in filters requiring this specific value. Its winding resistance of 0.12 ohm should be included in the crossover design because it affects signal level, damping and the electrical response of the connected loudspeaker.
The 16 AWG foil, equivalent to approximately 1.3 mm round wire, provides a large conductor surface. This model is therefore particularly suitable for high-quality tweeter and midrange filters as well as correction networks. Its low series resistance helps preserve loudspeaker sensitivity and control in the filter section.
Secure the inductor with a wide cable tie or a holder with a soft protective pad. The mounting must not crush the foil layers or place mechanical stress on the lead-outs.
When several inductors are installed on one board, maintain as much distance as practical and position neighbouring axes at 90 degrees to reduce magnetic coupling.
Avoid prolonged heating of the leads during soldering. Before installation, it is worth comparing the actual inductance and DCR of components intended for the left and right loudspeakers.
